OPERATION POOCHThe photos to the left were taken at the Ohio Vietnam Veterans War Memorial unveiling in Clinton, OH on Sunday, May 17th. The Operation Pooch spokes dogs were asked to attend and be on stage during a presentation by John C. Burnam, author of Dog Tags of Courage, a story about 4,000 four-legged heroes of the Vietnam War. German shepherds were used as scout dogs during that war, saving countless soldiers by locating wounded GI's, searching out weapons caches, and carrying food and water into battle. Operation Pooch was honored and proud to be a part of such an important day. Operation Pooch is a collection and distribution program to help our troops and their canine and feline companions to protect our country. In order to support the troops in a very unique and much-needed way, we have established Operation Pooch. At many of the camps located in Iraq and Afghanistan many troops have taken dogs and cats driven away from the surrounding villages and cities, under their wings. The animals serve many purposes; they offer companionship as well as killing vermin and keep venomous snakes away. They also alert troops if an intruder is close. We are asking your help to donate any items that could be helpful to a soldier, and their 4 legged companions. We are asking for any non perishable items such as sun block, Chap Stick, baby wipes, sugar free candy, batteries (all sizes), small sized toiletries, dog toys, dog treats and small bags of food, cat food, cat toys. Monetary donations to ease the cost of shipping, and any other items that will help our troops during their tour are much appreciated. Once again, thank you for your support! Donations can be dropped off at Fairlawn Pet Resort during our regular business hours. Inquiries can be emailed to OperationPooch@PetLover.com.
